FEATHERS

Woman adorns herself
feathers in her hair
on her jacket
feathery hair
boa around her neck
does this mean she is flighty?
Bird in a man’s hand?
Chick he calls her,
my bird
so she can grow up to be an old chook?
In man’s world she is captive.
This is not nature.

In nature, the male bird struts around
displaying his feathers.
But now man insists she display herself
adorn feathers just for him.

Would we bother?
