MEDITATION

Breathing in fresh, salt air
deep to the diaphragm
then further to my soul.
I shiver as it smashes against my airways
stale with the stench of the city.
Breathing out carbon monoxide
thick with chemicals
it burns the air around me
and I despair at the filth I leave behind me.
How can I come here
regurgitate my contempt
desecrate the sacred?
But this filling of my lungs, my heart
restores me.
I live for this moment.
When this place becomes stale
where will I go?
