WHALE SONG
She dives into her anguish.
Foul water spouts and falls.
She desires contact
but harbours resentment -
the memory of harpoons
blood and blubber.
The warmth of her milk
belies her cold surrounds.
A side-long stare
as she cautiously nears
and beaches herself
on the shore of humanity.
Her warm, salt tears
are lost in the sewer.
Friends bathe her
and gently guide her home
but she returns.
Hear her signal
her soft cry of protest.
Whales die, singing for a cause.
