Poet's Corner
Mike Ladd, the host of ABC Radio's POETICA program, was the Invited Guest for National Poetry Week and WA Spring Poetry Festival. During his short weekend stay he worked really hard to promote and share poetry to as many audiences in Perth as possiblem ~ and there were many opportunities presented by many groups around the metro area during National Poetry Week. Thank you, Mike and all the organisers who made this latest, yet another very successful poetry festival in WA. I was pleased to have Mike read at Poets Corner @ Pages Cafe on Saturday 30th August 2008, after the Official Opening in the WA State Library theatrette.   And what a fantastic afternoon it was! Invited reader Mike Ladd and a spectacular Open Mic with a whopping seventeen readers including: Sally Clark, Jan Napier, Janet Jackson, Annamaria Weldon, Murray Jennings, Frances Sbrocchi, Peter Bibby, Linda Leach, Caroline Sandbridge, Jim Cornish, Peter Jeffreys, Samith Pich, Marlia Doughlas, DickAlderson, Ron Oakley and a new poet from Bunbury, Kate Wilson.  I also took the opportunity to read a few of my own poems which addressed the themes of National Poetry Week. Personally, I was particularly delighted when Marlia Douglas (a poet I'd not met before) stood up and read her poem 'Desertification' which she told us was inspired by 'Desertification' by Frances Macaulay Forde, (Moi) published in 'Lines in the Sand'. To say I was thrilled, flattered and surprised, was an understatement! I shot up my hand and said 'That's me!' much to the surprise of Maria (who'd just walked into Pages Cafe off the street) and the great amusement for the regular audience at Poets Corner, who know me as their host.  Frances Macaulay Forde

National Poetry Week @ Pages Cafe

Although we have our regular Poets Corner @ Pages Cafe on 16th August with Andrew Burke & Poet Partners, we will also hold a SPECIAL EVENT for National Poetry Week.

So if you’re coming to the State Library for the Official Opening or the Poetry Wall, why not read some of your poetry too?

In the true spirit of National Poetry Week we're going to do something completely different to engage with poets, audiences, communities, artists and students.

On 30th August 2008, Poets Corner @ Pages Cafe we have Featured Guest Poet Mike Ladd and then we will invite everyone to take part in a spectacular  OPEN MIC which will last all afternoon from 2pm to 4.30pm.

We'll invite all poets to read a poem they've written on this year's themes:  Screen ~ Shop ~ Suspect ~ Space ~ I,eye ~ Friend ~ Cast ~ Save in the true festival spirit of total inclusion.

If this is the first or the last poem you've ever written on our themes for National Poetry Week join in the fun ~ inspire your fellow poets and share your words with our audience.
